(Zhou Yingyin) On the afternoon of May 22, the ceremony of Operation Center II of Guangzhou Metro awarding GZIST the title”Excellent Volunteer Institution” took place in Room 816 of the Administration Building for the University remarkable contribution to volunteer services. Present at the ceremony were the Center’s CPC Deputy Secretary Li Jiahai, Metro Station Service Division III CPC Secretary Chen Weiqiang, Train Equipment and Maintenance Division II CPC Secretary Liu Zhiwei, Communication Signal Maintenance Division II Deputy Manager and Communist Youth League Secretary Ma Ruosheng, Comprehensive Management Supervisor Yue Lei, GZIST CPC Deputy Secretary and Vice President Zhang Zhihong, School of Construction and Engineering CPC Deputy Secretary Yin Fan, GZIST Communist Youth League Deputy Secretary Li Guanwen, Student Affairs Deputy Director Lin Guojian as well as faculty and student representatives. Secretary Yin Fan hosted the event.

Secretary Yin made the opening remarks that volunteer services are a vital force for social progress and a pivotal component of our university heritage. Today the honor that Operation Center II of Guangzhou Metro affords us is an affirmation of our volunteer services as well as an impetus and encouragement. GZIST is always keen to actively participate in charitable acts of all kinds and offer assistance to the people of our city.

GZIST CPC Deputy Secretary and Vice President Zhang Zhihong expressed his warm welcome to Secretary Li and his colleagues. Since May 2014, the CPC General Branch of School of Construction and Engineering has been engaged in over 100 volunteer acts involving 3000 volunteer CPC faculty and student members, in cooperation with the Center. The Communist Youth League has well developed our young people by engaging them in the Mega Classroom of our society and empowering them with greater capabilities in the real world practices.

Secretary Li expressed his gratitude to our University volunteers for their selfless services to the people’s wonderful experience of the Metro.  

Exchanges of ideas then followed for further internships and collaboration between the Metro and the University. The event came to a fruitful close with the awarding of the plaque Excellent Volunteer Institution by Guangzhou Metro.
