The 2022 “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” National English Writing and Reading, and Speech Competitions were held on October 15th and 19th respectively, with 491 students taking part in the writing contest, 546 students in the reading contest, and 144 students in the speech contest.
The Writing and Reading Competitions were held in the computer room on the fourth floor of the new administration building, adopting a fair and efficient online scoring form.
Grand prize, first prize, second prize and third prize were set according to the proportion of 1%, 5%, 10% and 15% of the total number of contestants, excellent ones were recommended to participate in the provincial semi-final.
The results of the competition truly reflect the English writing and reading skills of students in our university, which will have a good backwash effect on the teachers’ classroom teaching.
The speech ground competition includes the fixed-topic video speech and impromptu speech at preliminary and final contest respectively.
The intense competition cultivates essential qualities of college students, such as oral English expression skills, knowledge reserve level, on-the-spot response ability and psychological quality.
“Reading makes a full man, oratory a ready man, and writing an exact man.” Abilities in speech, writing and reading have become the basic requirement for the cultivation of high-quality foreign language talents with comprehensive quality of foreign language, critical thinking, communication, innovation and international competitiveness.
The “FLTRP · ETIC Cup” College English Challenge has drawn wide attention worldwide, which aims to improve students’ comprehensive application ability of foreign language driven by promoting abilities in reading, writing and speaking. It is a large-scale public welfare competition, including three major national contests of English speech, writing and reading.
With its authority, academics and professionalism, the competition has been selected into the provincial and departmental competition items by Chinese Higher Education Association of Ministry of Education for 5 consecutive years since 2018. The competition is recognized for its achievements in leading ideas, cultivating talents, and promoting teaching.
2 grand prizes, 8 first prizes, 18 second prizes, and 29 third prizes were granted in the speech contest. 4 grand prizes, 17 first prizes, 35 second prizes, and 51 third prizes were awarded in the writing contest. 6 grand prizes, 22 first prizes, 45 second prizes, and 75 third prizes were granted in the reading contest.
