On March 8, the University invited Deputy Director Yang Liqun from Research Division of Guangdong Province Department of Education, Dean Chen Yongzhu from Graduate School of Guangdong Polytechnic University, Vice Dean Ding Yanhong, Degree Office Manager Sun Jia and Masters Supervisor Li Ya for a seminar on joint postgraduate education, chaired by GZIST Vice President Zhang Shimei.

Vice President Zhang first greeted the panel and reported that the University was authorized in 2021 to be a Masters degree granting construction institution and in 2022 obtained joint postgraduate program recruitment quota. The University has in recent years made greater investments into talents development, academic teams, research funding, selection of Masters supervisors, and construction of AI key labs. The current difficulty that the University faces is the limited recruitment quota. She hoped that the Provincial Department of Education would be able to give us greater support.

Dean Chen Yongzhu shared the experience of joint postgraduate education at Guangdong Polytechnic University. Director Chen Tianyong of GZIST Research Office talked about the University’s plan. They discussed and exchanged ideas about program management, research direction and practical supervision.

Deputy Director Yang Liqun expressed his view on the positive results of the joint postgraduate programs by the two institutions. He stressed that the State attaches great importance to postgraduate education and all the institutions of higher learning must run their programs well to meet the needs of CPC and the country. Specialized Masters programs must take the road of industry-academics integration and the industry-academics-research union in order to solve practical problems of enterprises. He reassured greater support from the Provincial Department of Education for Masters program approval, planning and development of the private universities and colleges.

The delegation visited GZIST’s Postgraduate Office, AI Key Labs and Industrial Robot Assembly and Application Research Center.
