April 7, 2022, on the eve of the 22nd World Intellectual Property Day, the University Planning and Research Department invited Lin Boxun, Manager of Xinzhihui Intellectual Property Agency, to give a lecture on “Intellectual Property and You: Innovation and the Future”, in order to thoroughly implement President Xi Jinping's important instructions on intellectual property work and vigorously advocate the culture of innovation. Close to 600 students from all majors attended the lecture in No.1 Lecture Hall.
Manager Lin elaborated the basic theory and application of intellectual property from five aspects: intellectual property, trademark, copyright, impact of intellectual property, and patent foundation. He pointed out that intellectual property rights are the exclusive rights that people enjoy in accordance with the law in respect of their intellectual achievements, which are usually the exclusive rights or exclusivity that the country grants to the creator for a certain period of time. However, the content of Chinese intellectual property rights involves trade secrets, integrated circuit layout design and so on. In order to facilitate students' understanding, Manager Lin took the emblem and mascot Bing Dwen Dwen of the Winter Olympics and Paralympics as an example to explain the criminal case of infringing the copyright of the Winter Olympic mascot and the guide to the correct use of the copyright of the Winter Olympic mascot. For patent application, Manager Lin introduced in detail domestic inventions, utility models, design writing requirements, review process, and authorization cycle. Patents are everywhere. College students should pay attention to them, be good at finding out the shortcomings of the objects used in daily life and study, and propose technical solutions through critical thinking.
