The School of General Education (SGE) was established in accordance with our university’s requirement of cultivating high-level applied talents, aiming to improve our students’ comprehensive quality and innovative thinking. At present, SGE is jointly run with the School of Marxism, implementing the management model of “Two-in-One”. SGE consists of two teaching departments: Liberal Studies (Mathematics, Science, Law and Chinese) and Physical Education. SGE has 68 faculty members including 61 full-time and 7 adjunct.
The Teaching and Research Office of Mathematics and Science is responsible for teaching Advanced Mathematics, Linear Algebra, Probability Theory, Mathematical Statistics and University Physics for the university. The Department has a strong academic atmosphere, constantly innovating teaching methods throughout teaching, and organizing students to participate in mathematical modeling competitions every year with excellent results.
The Teaching and Research Office of Law undertakes the research and teaching of the core courses of law for the university, including the Constitution, Economic Law, International Business Law, Litigation Law, Intellectual Property Law, Social Security Law, Labor Law, Maritime Law, and E-commerce Law.
The Department of Physical Education undertakes physical education and physical fitness testing for all our university students, for the training of multiple sports teams, including Soccer, Track and Field, Basketball, Aerobics, Tennis, Badminton, Table Tennis, and Directional Movement. In recent years, the Department of Physical Education has focused on teaching reform, and actively organized teams to participate in various university sports competitions and achieved remarkable results. In 2019, our university Football Team won the second place in Guangdong Youth Football Championship, the third place in the Southeast Division of China University Football League and the sixth place in the final of China University Football League. Our Basketball Team won the championship of Guangdong Three-men Basketball Tournament in 2018, the fourth place in the basketball tournament of the 10th University Games of Guangdong in 2019, and the fourth place in Guangdong University Men’s Basketball Championship in 2020. Our Badminton Team won the championship of mixed doubles and the first prize of total team score in Guangdong University Badminton Championship in 2020. Our Aerobics Team won the fourth place in the team score of Guangdong University Aerobics and Cheerleading Championship in 2020. In the past five years, our university sports teams have won the top eight in various competitions for 316 times, among which our sports teams have won the first prize in the 8th National Fitness Gymnastics Finals; the first place in the short distance of the 13th Guangdong Orienteering Championship and the first place in the men’s high jump of the Guangdong Athletics Championship.
The School of General Education conscientiously implements the spirit of the National Education Conference, adheres to the student-oriented approach, and strives to nurture a new generation of youngsters who are equipped with moral grounding, intellectual and physical ability, aesthetic sensibility and work skills, and are well-prepared to join the socialist cause.
